Sample Types of In-Class Writing

This is a sample answer for a quiz question that asks for the identification of a single passage. Although it contains a few small factual errors, it is successful in the way it addresses both the content of the passage and the broader context in which it was written:

These are sample short essays. Descriptions of the successful and less successful parts of each essay are described in the comments in the PDF. We don't use a grading rubric, but you should generally be able to tell from the commentary what the expectations are for each grade range:

Sample Essay 1 — This is a short essay written in English that was marked in the A range.

Sample Essay 2 — This is a short essay written in Spanish that was marked  in the A range.

Sample Essay 3 — This is a short essay written in English that was marked  in the B range.
